This unit is part of the Salesforce Quick Start path.
If you haven't already done so, we recommend starting with Introduction: Salesforce quick start first before you go any further.
In this unit we'll cover how to test your flow, while viewing the results within Pendula.

Viewing messages within your experience
Responding to your flow
-
Wait until your active flow reaches the scheduled send date and time.
You should receive an SMS to the mobile phone number set against your test contact record very shortly after!
-
Reply back with one of the keywords or phrases defined in your inbound SMS node as an expected response eg.
Hello
.Make sure it matches exactly otherwise it will not be recognised as an expected response and your contact record will not proceed any further along the flow.
-
You should now receive the additional SMS you configured after the inbound SMS node, completing the flow!
Now let's take a look at how this interaction is captured within Pendula as an experience.
An experience tracks the unique journey of a recipient as they progress through the nodes you have configured within a flow.
Viewing your experience
-
Navigate to the Flows tab in the top navigation bar of your Pendula tenant
-
Click on the flow number eg. PF-0001 of the flow you recently activated and responded to
-
Click on the Experiences tab, which is below the Details section of the Flow preview screen
-
Any instances of this flow triggering are recorded here.
At a glance, you'll be able to see the experience number, the Id values of your test contact record included in the flow along with the start and end time and status of the experience.
-
Click on the experience number eg. E-727 of the experience created after you activated and responded to this flow
-
Below the Details section you'll be able to review the Experience flow path, which mirrors the nodes you linked together on the flow builder canvas, and provides an overview of the actions taken once the flow first triggered for your test contact record.
In the context of your SMS flow, if you successfully replied back to the initial SMS message with an expected response your Experience Flow Path should look like this:
- The Events tab provides an alternate view of the actions taken within the flow in tabulated form rather than displaying them as nodes
An experience can consist of one or many outbound and inbound nodes, the contents of which are individually represented as messages.
Let's take a look at how these are recorded within an experience.
Viewing messages within your experience
-
Under either the Experience Flow Path or Events tab of the experience you are viewing, click on View Message for one of the outbound SMS nodes
-
The message details screen provides you with an overview of the type, status, direction, date & time and related flow along with a Message preview containing the contents of the SMS sent to your test contact
Each time experiences and messages are created for a particular flow, they are collated as part of a flow's performance report.
This helps provide you with insightful data relevant to each flow.
Let's take a look at this now that you have triggered and responded to you flow.
Flow performance
-
Navigate to the Flows tab in the top navigation bar of your Pendula tenant
-
Click on the flow number eg. PF-0001 of the flow you recently activated and responded to
-
Click on the Performance tab, which is below the Details section of the Flow preview screen
Each conversation node within the flow will have a corresponding performance card that shows all delivery and engagement data for that node across all experiences of the flow.
See Flow performance for more information
What's next?
Now that you've tested your flow and seen how this is recorded within your Pendula tenant, it's time to see what data is also synced back into Salesforce.
You might also be wondering what happens if a recipient responds back to a flow with something other than an expected response defined in an inbound node.
We go into how to view and manage these in the next unit as well.
The next unit in this quick start path is Step 6. How to view and manage exceptions within Salesforce.
